Papers of Charles Duguid. 1918-[198-]

Correspondence, diaries (1934-1951), reports, notes, slides, texts of speeches, printed material and newspaper cutting books (1933-1972). The material relates to his work for the Australian Aborigines, and his involvement in various organizations, such as the Aborigines Advancement League of South Australia. It documents the development of the Ernabella Mission in the Musgrave Ranges, in 1937, and the use made of the Smith of Dunesk Bequest for the improvement of Aboriginal welfare. The bulk of the collection covers the period from 1930 to 1960 when Duguid was campaigning most actively for Aboriginal rights. The later correspondence, from 1960 to the early 1980s, consists mainly of congratulatory notes and telegrams on Duguid's 80th and 90th birthdays, and on his award of the O.B.E. The collection also includes the typescript of his autobiography.

1.76 m. + box of slides in fol. run.
